This summer Justin has learned to ride a bike. He got a small 12" bike for Easter. It took him a little while to get the hang of pedaling; in the beginning he just wanted to push it along with his feet. Once he got the hang of pedaling there was no stopping him.
In June, for his birthday, he got a new bigger bike. The new 16" bike accommodated his height so much better. It took him about 1 day to adjust from the little bike to his new bike and then he could ride so much faster. I took the training wheels off the small bike and thought that he could get used to balancing on a shorter bike. It took him a few days with mom's help and then he was off. He no longer wanted to ride his new big bike with training wheels because "riding without training wheels is so much fun!" Once he got really good at the balancing I took the training wheels off his bigger bike. I talked him into trying to ride it without training wheels and it only took him about 5 minutes to adjust from the smaller bike. Justin loves riding his bike without training wheels. He now does so much on his bike.
Some of the tricks that he can do:
* put his feet on the back pegs while riding
* go up and down the curb
* go off the jump that Tyler built for him
* ride without hands (this means that he lifts his fingers off the handle bars and holds on with his thumbs)
* stand up (almost 100% of the time)
* sit on his back wheel once he comes to a stop
* wiggles back and forth by twisting his handle bars while riding (this scares Mom and makes Dad very nervous)
Justin has done so good riding his bike, especially with no training wheels. Way to go Justo!!
